The hopes of bi-national same-sex couples are dashed by the Department of Homeland Security. In Washington State, out-of-state same-sex marriages will be recognized as domestic partnerships, but Colorado kills a civil union bill. House Republicans try to attack Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell repeal. An out lesbian is nominated to the high court of Massachusetts and another one is nominated by President Obama to serve on a federal court. An anti-gay top cop costs New York City two million in damages—and he is still on the job. A gay corrections officer in Mississippi is reinstated with the help of the ACLU.  A new book on Malcolm X delves more deeply into a relationship he had with a man, while in India, a book hinting at Gandhi’s crush on a man gets it banned in some states.
